We are capable of allowing ourselves to fall into the depths, but we choose to rise. Silent voices of change call upon us, urging us to act. We deserve to shape reality, to define our identity, our creativity, and our existence. To awaken our consciousness and reclaim our freedom. There is poetry in the wise and simple things, in imagination and in doubt.
"Imagine a backyard that hasn’t seen a "gardener" in many years. The weeds have turned into bushes, the bushes into trees, and the trees into a forest. And now, when the backyard is beginning to overshadow the beauty of the house, the homeowner must tend to the garden. Look out the window at the crumbling streets, the deceptive view of the apartment buildings, the crumbling construction stones, the graffiti, the sound of the voices of impoverished toddlers and desperate mothers. We sit and watch our televisions while some news anchor tells us that today we had fifteen murders and three rapes, as if that’s how it’s supposed to be. The network no longer boils. Our senses have dulled. They’ve fallen asleep. I don’t need to tell you that the situation is bad. Everyone knows that the situation is bad. This is a low point. Everyone is walking around without work, or fearing they will lose their job, the shekel is worth nothing, the banks are deteriorating, criminals roam freely in the streets – in the name of law and democracy, and no one knows what to do, and there is no end to it. Give me my book, my phone, and my television, my hair dryer, and I won’t say a word, just leave us alone. Well, I won’t leave you alone. I want you to go wild with anger – I don’t want you to riot. I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to write to your president.
I don’t know what to do about the depression, the racism, the state budget, or the crime on the streets. All I know is that first of all, you need to get angry. You have to say: “I’m really angry, and I’m not going to put up with this anymore. I’m a human being, damn it. My life has value.” We all know the situation is bad. Serious. The situation is crazy. It’s as if everything is going insane. That’s why we don’t go out. We stay home, and little by little the world we live in becomes smaller. So, I want you to get up right now. I want you to leave your chairs and go to the window. Right now. I want you to go to the window, open it, stick your heads out, and shout. I want you to shout: "I’m really angry, and I’m not going to put up with this anymore!" Don’t worry about how you’ll look in the eyes of others, the anger will acquire symbolic value. It’s a product of culture and human society. It’s a human need. Get up from your chairs. Go to the window. Open it. Stick your head out and shout, and keep shouting, you need to get angry. When you are really angry, shout from the bottom of your heart. And about the injustice, things must change. But you can’t change unless you’re angry. You have to get angry. Go to the window! I want to believe that over time, here and there, windows will open, and change will come from all the people of the city, human anger will be heard, a real cry. The change will come".
